Student Objectives
-Use the language of visual arts to communicate effectively.
-Apply creative and critical thinking skills to artistic expression.
-Create art using a variety of tools, media, and processes, safely and appropriately.
-Understand the global, historical, societal, and cultural contexts of the visual arts.
-Understand the interdisciplinary connections and life applications of the visual arts.
-Use critical analysis to generate response to a variety of prompts.
Rules: Students are expected to conform to the code of conduct as stated in the LRHS student handbook
Be on time and in your seat
Clean up after yourself. You are responsible for putting away supplies and projects in your designated locations
Personal property not needed for art class should be removed from tables
Do not waste
Demonstrate respect for property, peers and teachers is expected
Remain in seat until bell rings
Cell Phone Policy:
• Phones are allowed to be on and used for art related issues, not for calls or texting
• Students are allowed to listen to music with headphones at acceptable volume while
working on projects (when teacher is not instructing)
• Student will lose phone/music privileges if policy is not followed
Penalty Procedures:
1. Document/Warning
2. Document/Call home
3. Document/Referral
Required Materials: # 2 Pencil, sketchbook (100 pages) 81/2 by 11 or larger your preference
Erasers, Mechanical pencils if you prefer over regular pencils, ultra-fine and fine black sharpies
Grading: The purpose of grades is to communicate student achievement and identify areas for improvement.
Students will receive a grade on every project and sketchbook assignment. Each project will be
evaluated in the following areas: Followed Directions, Growth/ Progress, Creativity/Effort,
Craftsmanship, and Work Habits.
- Failure to do a project = 0
- Missing, Lost, or “stolen” project = 0
- Projects account for 70 % of student’s grade
Sketchbooks:
- A sketchbook assignment will be given every day during the first fifteen
minutes of class. Students will be expected to work on assignment independently.
Sketchbooks will be graded at the end of every week and a single grade for the entire week will
be given. Sketchbooks account for 20% of grade.
The remaining 10% quizzes and test given periodically
- Final art exam comes directly from sketchbook assignments. Sketchbooks/notes are allowed to be
used during the final exam.
Classroom Procedures:
Entering class-Students begin working on sketchbook upon entering class.
Student work- Students are expected to work in class everyday
Sketchbook- complete daily
Projects- Students begin work on projects as they finish their sketchbook assignments.
Directions and examples are located on board for the duration of the project.
Project turn in- Students will turn in finished work in the designated area with their name and class period on the back
Demonstrations- All students are facing and in close proximity to the teacher.
Absences-Students are responsible for all work/assignments missed.
Clean up: Students are responsible for cleaning work areas and returning supplies.
Dismissal: Students remain in seat until teacher dismisses class. (no lining up at the door)
